Field Trip Information

Field trips are an important part of our educational program at WCCC. WCCC advocates for all of our classrooms to include many walking field trips in their weekly schedules and trolley or bus rides around the area. Field trips can start in Fireflies or Tadpoles, with trips once or twice a year and increase in frequency as your child gets older and is in our preschool rooms; Climbers, Stars, Crickets and Butterflies. These classes have many field trips monthly and in some instances weekly. Everyday we encourage our teachers to take the children out in the neigborhood on walks, or visits to area businesses. WCCC requires a signed permission slip on all field trips that are more than two blocks away.

Some field trips require parents to help with transportation. Transportation for field trips can be the city bus, city trolley, Jaunt, Charlottesville City School Buses for Summer Camp, Butterflies and Crickets during the summer. Butterflies, Crickets, Stars, and Climbers classes require that a yearly permission slip be on file for all children. Some field trip may require a nominal fee, which the teachers will inform you about.

WCCC utilizes the city bus system, the free trolley system, Jaunt and City of Charlottesville School Buses-(Summer Only) for transportation during field trips.

Our policy states that parents must provide alternative care if you choose not to allow your child to go on a field trip. WCCC is not required to find alternative care for your child if you choose to withhold them from classroom activities. For our part time families, if you choose not to bring your child on a field trip day that is your scheduled day, then you are not allowed to bring your child in on an unscheduled day to make up for that day missed.

Neighborhood walks, Rides on the trolley, or city bus to the downtown mall, Sweet Frogs, Chap's, Splendora's, Carters Mountain Apple Orchard, Charlottesville Discovery Museum, Chiles Peach Orchard, Rotunda at UVA, UVA gardens, Mud Bowl at UVA, Gordon Avenue Library, Martha Jefferson House, Venable Playground and more!

Crickets, Butterflies, and Summer Camp Only:

Charlottesville trips: Rides on the free trolley to the downtown mall for ice cream and etc, McGuffey Park, McIntyre Park, Hikes on area trails and in area parks, Bounce 'N' Play, Michie tavern, Monticello, Bowling at Kegler's, Free Movies at Regal Cinema, Walnut Creek Park, City of Charlottesville public pools, ACAC Water Park, Ashlawn Highland, Highlands Golf Course, Putt Putt, and more!

Richmond trips: Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, Maymont Park, Childrens Museum and Science Museum of Richmond, Imax theater in Richmond, Peak Experiences Rock Climbing, Richmond Zoo and more.

Other trips outside of Charlottesville: Friendship Gymnastics in Palmyra VA, Luray Caverns, Amazement Square Museum in Lynchburg, VA Safari Park in Lexington VA, Wintergreen Wildlife Center, Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton VA and more...
